(64 Rambler ambassador) Safelite did the front and rear windshields. Three times and they still leaked and rusted out my trunk and front floorboards. Have the floorboards and front windshield sealed, doing this myself. A question please. The rear rubber is cut into two pieces. Is that standard? The front fits fine after correcting the problems and no leaks. The rear gasket is cut at the bottom right and left corners. Did not know if that is standard, trying to figure out how to keep from leaking. Any help is greatly appreciated. ------------------------------------------------ Kenny, some of the replacement gaskets are cut and fitted from open stock gasket rubber. With the gasket out, make sure the ends are square then clean with mineral spirits. Apply a little contact cement and follow instructions (household glue that says "apply to both pieces then wait xx minutes" is contact cement). Once you touch the two ends together they are there to stay, so line up good first! If you already have the gasket in, the only thing you can do is get some black RTV (silicone) and fill the gap. It may shrink a little over the years (the gasket and/or the RTV), so 3-5 years from now you may need to touch it up (depends on how much it is in the weather) by adding some RTV. CLEAN the area before applying RTV! Spray brake parts cleaner is great since if the gasket is in you can't get down in the small gap to clean. Just wait 20 seconds or so to make sure it has evaporated completely after spraying. _______________________________________________ AMC-list mailing list AMC-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://list.amc-list.com/listinfo.cgi/amc-list-amc-list.com
