I have the answer for the distance between the two pulleys. I did find a water pump for the car. It was the short shaft water pump that was a little hard to locate. I was going by the valve cover stamp for the dates. 312Z09 Sorry for the confusion. Thanks for the help. For ?70 the big engine remained the 390, albeit with the increased deck height, and the new ?dog leg? cylinder heads. The 401 came out in 1971. As for your specific question, I?m not sure what you mean by super close pump and crank pulley? Are you referring to the spacing between them? I believe the dimensions are 3.5 inches 390, and 71 401 and 72 and newer V8 the distance is 3.75 inches Armand ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ken Ames" <ameskg@xxxxxxxxx> To: "Rambler AMC, Nash, Jeep and family" <amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, August 18, 2014 11:49 AM Subject: Re: [AMC-list] 401 water pump pulley > Maybe it is a late1970 calendar year - 1971 model year 401. :) > I was thinking he's referring to the distance from the block/water pump. > > Ken > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "David Crooks" <david.crooks@xxxxxxxxxxxx> > To: amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx > Sent: Sunday, August 17, 2014 6:59:01 PM > Subject: [AMC-list] 401 water pump pulley > > Hi Jim, > > Sorry, but there was no ?70 401?
