i had a 16:1 manual box in my american and loved it because i could
make just about any turn without moving my hands on the wheel - very
nice if i was 'one-handing' it.  effort was heavy but tolerable above
about 25mph, but i wasn't trying to drive hard and i didn't have fat
tires on my car.  i got the box from someone upgrading his amx to
power.

if you're talking power, there's an early-'90s grand cherokee box
that's 12:1, saginaw like the amc box but metric fittings and maybe
not all 4 mounting lugs.  a ps expert could work wonders with parts
interchange though.
