Correct, but those all 68 390 Ambassadors built after that date, believe to be Dec 67. Still quite a find! Eddie Stakes 713-464-8825 days www.planethoustonamx.com From: bigrigbear Sent: Saturday, November 16, 2013 3:13 PM I have a 68 343 but know that mid-year they started offering 390 as an option Not sure where that comes from but hard to argue with AMC's calendar year production which shows how many 1968 Ambassadors made with a 390V8. http://www.planethoustonamx.com/main/1968-amc-production-figures.htm Ken Ames asked: This picture would be for just July? No, below link off my site is all 1968 production from August 1st 1967 thru mid July 1968. Not sure where that comes from but hard to argue with AMC's calendar year production which shows how many 1968 Ambassadors made with a 390V8. http://www.planethoustonamx.com/main/1968-amc-production-figures.htm From: cambrian schuster The 390 wasn't offered in the Ambassador until 1969 Mark Price said: Shame to see it not saved, but there is a slim market for rusty Ambassadors. Correct but sad & rarity does not equate market value. Still, imagine having a one of one AMC. Marc Montoni said: I've seen AMX's in worse shape brought back from that condition. A couple of years ago, I visited with a fellow in the DC area who had taken his 70 AMX apart underneath -- weld by painstaking weld. I saw it apart, and what he was doing was impressive. A few months ago he told me it's nearing completion. It will be a $50k car when he's done -- and he will lose about $25k of either money or time on his investment even at that. Unfortunately, the fact that those same guys only see that Ambassador as a parts buck for the engine pretty much killed the greater AMC hobby twenty years ago. The same job could have been done on this Ambassador -- for a dollar investment of probably a quarter of what the AMX required. Timewise, similar but probably a bit less. At the end of the resto he would have had a $20k Ambassador and something no one else on the planet had. -- Marc This is true of wagons & four door AMC vehicles. You know for what it worth, there are a crap load of AMC vehicles built that were few made and chances are no longer with us, simply because they had unfortunate luck to have been built with a 390 or 401. Even back in 1970s these 'handful cars' were being cannibalized for engines the rest tossed. Fast forward to 2013 still are I guess.
