Happy Birthday AMC Gremlin, you turn 43 today, April 1st, 1970. The photo is the Gremlin's official introduction at the New York Auto Show April 1st (April Fools Day) in 1970. http://www.planethoustonamx.com/press_photos/70-amc-gremlin-introduction-ny-autoshow.jpg The display was work of Guy Hadsall Jr AMC's "Shows & Events Manager" who was courted by Willys before going to AMC and working way up ranks. Guy & team were resposible for many of the great, memorable auto show displays for AMCs in 60s/70s some of you may remember depending on age! Noteworthy, nothing much has changed in these years at auto shows you still see people like lady in foreground with (probably metal bottom) purse scratching up new Gremlin paint while digging for mascara in purse. Locally at the huge Houston Auto Show, the display cars take a beating, not unusual to see things missing from them like dash knobs, emblems, people pry off, inside cars, no matter what model, luxury to low enders, stains on seats & carpets from attendees getting in them to check out with cell phones, soda, pretzel, whatever else in hand. After the show those dispaly cars generally sold at below market price by those dealerships. Back to AMC, might I recommend ya'll pick up a copy of Guy Hadsall Jr's "Mister Javelin: Guy Hadsall Jr at American Motors" by Sam Fiorani & Patrick R. Foster. ISBN# 0-9668943-0-8 you can find them on ebay & amazon.com.
