Sorry Frank. This time your info is incorrect. Dana 30 came in 3 flavors. High pinion (front of XJs and many other rigs. aka reverse rotation, but that's a misnomer), low pinion and low pinion long input (Volvo also used the long pinion D30) Jim Blair From: Frank Swygert <farna@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [AMC-list] Eagle axle gearing ? D30IFS/AM20 to 3.73s ? ! The Model 20 was easy to find parts to change out. The D30-IFS seems to be not listed any place ? ! What to do ? ----------------------------- Doesn't have to be IFS, the Dana 30 front diff is all you need to look up. All the D30 front axles are the same, IFS or solid. The rear axle is an AMC 15, but D35 gears are supposed to fit. The side gears in the diff that the axle slides into may be different due to different axle diameters and/or splines, but the ring and pinion should interchange. The D35 is basically a copy of the AMC 15. It was probably designed and built by Dana (or Spicer, which Dana bought many moons ago!) for AMC, and AMC just gave it their own designation. Regardless of who designed it, Dana supplied the axle for AMC from the mid to late 50s on. Don't know if AMC built some and used Dana as a second source or Dana built them all. -- Frank Swygert Editor - American Motors Cars Magazine www.amc-mag.com -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
