I am getting ready to install an R4B on my 69 390 Javelin. I want to leave it stock looking under the hood and not use an aftermarket air cleaner assembly. I looked at my 69 AMX I purchased several years ago that came with a NOS R4B on it. The air cleaner base had been trimmed around the carb openning and has a piece of split heater hose around the circumference. I'm guessing this was done to lower the air cleaner housing enough to clear the hood. A friend also suggested using a mid 80's Jeep air cleaner base which he said is lower and the stock 69 chrome lid will go on it, but I would have to make up some sort of an adapter to accommodate the smaller carter carb and get a 69 snorkle to replace the Jeep snorkle. Using an aftermarket adapter would just add back to the height. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
