have a 65 classic with 287 or 327. tag shows it as 327 but engine is blue, is there any other way of checking size without pulling a head
===============================
If it's the original engine it would be a 287. 287s were only used in Classic and Marlin, 327 only used in Ambassador and Marlin. Marlin was the only one you could get both V-8 engines in.
Other than that the only way to know for sure is to find the numbers behind the passenger side head. It's hard to see, but a raised cast in number. A "4" indicates a 4" bore (327).
The thing about boring a 287 1/4" to make a 327 is just a rumor, not substantiated! Before trying that have the block checked at a machine shop.
