'76 would be either points or Presto-no-lite ignition (spotted by the weird looking plastic vacuum advance) as Motorcraft came out in '78. It could have been dealer or knowledgeable mechanic retrofitted to bypass the problematic Presto system. Alt should be Motorola. (I have that from my '73 J4000 still bolted to my 304)

Does this sound correct?
 
Motorcraft alternators were installed at the factory on 76 Jeep Wagoneers 
equipped with the 401 V8 and a Motorcraft  ignition system.
