Re: [AMC-list] AMC-20 steer axle ?

Yep they are the same width measured it myself 3 times, So if the Eagle is the same as the Cherokee and Comanche than I will get two of the 71-74 Jav-20's :-) my Comanche is SUA or Spring Under Axle if the Eagle isn't than that is an easy fix ;-)

I bought this 73 Matador and I have been starting it everyday for a month. Today it cranks but it wont fire up. I guessed the solenoid so I put a screw driver between the posts and got no spark with the key on and off. I'll get a soleniod this week, any other ideas I should check or does this sound like the issue?

Does anyone remember the Javelin TV ad where the kid drives up in the driveway in his Javelin with a supercharger sticking out of the hood?

His dad walks out and says "What's that sticking out of the hood?'

Son: "Supercharger dad! More horsepower!" And he revs the engine.

Dad: "Where's the cut-pile carpeting?"

Son: "Too much weight dad!"

Banter continues....

Ring a bell anyone?

Your starting problem isn't the solenoid. If it were that, the engine
wouldn't crank at all.

Start with the simple stuff before throwing parts at it. First thing is
to make sure there is spark. You can do that by pulling a plug wire off,
pulling back the boot so the terminal is exposed and holding it about a
1/4" from the end of the plug. With someone cranking the engine, you
should see a nice blue spark.

If that checks out, the next thing to do is check fuel. Remove the air
cleaner and hold the choke open. While looking down the carb, open the
throttle all the way. You should hear and see a steady stream of fuel.
If not, you have no fuel.

Matt

Not sure where your getting the 4cyl from, But my SX/4 is a 258 I6 I will be rebuilding my AMC-290 V8 and swapping into the Eagle ;-)

Its NOT that I need an AMC-20 front or rear I just simply wanted to know if the AMC-20 could be made into an IFS steer axle given their useage in Humvee's n Hummer H1s ;-)

The rear will be an AMC-20 for certain.
So the 71-74 Jav-20 I need for my Comanche is the same as what is needed for the Eagle's rear axle ? ! ?

i don't know if it's the right width for either, but afaik eagles are
the same as cherokees and comanches. iirc the eagle is soa like the
cherokee.
