A key here is Legendary Auto Interiors might not have it in stock so would have to outsource or make it: https://www.legendaryautointeriors.com/webmodules/catcatalog/dtl_allcatalogaspx?Make=A&ID=AA&DESC=&Year=&RecCount=20&Page=7 something a old school auto upholstery guy could also do locally in one's area. There used to be a place called Dorsey's Auto Interiors here in Houston, guy was great on simply looking at a interior, cloth, vinyl, leather, courderoy, whatever marque it could have been, and matching it. I took a 72 AMX over to have them redo a front seat in cloth tan, and car was ready 2 days later, you could not tell the new seat reupholstered from original AMC 1971 (pressed) seats it was....that good. Same pattern, stitch too. This was before Legendary in business. Legendary has some awesome products, and I have used them in my own restorations and hats off to them for expanding their AMC market. But I personally would still take seats to several local auto upholstery shops to get some opinions first. It might come to pass that if they can't find proper materials, possibly SMS or Legendary has the proper materilr to cover seats and the local auto upholstery shop will then recover them using outsourced materials. It's all good. I crossed over a Javelin cover to my 72 Gremlin and they were exact matches. That why I asked what year/model --- On Sat, 5/19/12, Eddie Stakes <eddiestakes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: I'm not sure what the original thread was about, maybe a Gremlin or Hornet. My comments below are about my own 71 SC/360 of which the seats were redone. Eddie Stakes 713.464.8825 eddiestakes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx www.planethoustonamx.com What kind of AMC are talking about? --- On Sat, 5/19/12, Eddie Stakes <eddiestakes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote Having AMC seats recovered is same as having a AMC painted. You simply have to shop around. Don't go with first house you look at, first insurance company you contact, just contact other old car folks at cruise nights and if they have nice interiors, regardles of what make, ask them who did it, many times they more than happy to divulge information. You also have a North Star AMC chapter in MN, http://www.northstaramc.com/ I would talk to them to find out who does what, or recommendations by fellow AMCers, you probably would find out who to check out, and who to stay away from. When I was going to get my seats in the 71 SC/360 redone several years ago, I talked to people at Westside Upholestery 1 block from me. There is always a number of musclecars, classics and antiques at that place, just hour ago driving down Brittmoore in my 82 Concord woodie wagon I noticed a old Rolls Royce, Starfire 2 door and a 63, or 64 Corvette at the place. When I showed them my seats they said about $1500-$2000 to redo them. They do excellent work, and I just recently wrote here about a Buick 56 convertible they were redoing the interior on before it went thru Iowa auction and I believe sold above $200K+. So I politely declined, and tooks eats to small shop on gessner called Hernandez Auto Interiors. Hernandez used to work for Westside but started own shop. He agreed to redo the seats in the design I submitted of red, white and blow. Front seats, head rests, rear seat, they got cushions, new big grain vinyl and numerous springs for $850. http://www..planethoustonamx.com/sc360/my-sc360-20.jpg Great job, same as Westside but fraction of price. Warning, since some of ya'll are considering having seats done by people working out of house, get a quote first and don't pay up front! Also if you wish to have original AMC NOS material used for seats, try SMS on my VENDORS list they have millions of rolls of NOS materials dating back to 1920s/30s, and have a number of AMC rolls. Eddie Stakes 713.464.8825 eddiestakes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx www.planethoustonamx.com ----- Original Message ----- From: Robert Parsons I agree. The shops around here are way too expensive. Terry, if he'll do your front bench for that amount, it is a deal. I've just started looking around for someone that works out of their house so hopefully the cost will be more in line with what it should be. More like $1500 for all seats and panels. So far, I have not found anyone that comes with a good recommendation. Bob in MN -----Original Message----- From: Rick Griffin <amc_poppy@xxxxxxxxx> Darn I am glad I live where I do as my seats only cost me $400 for both gremlin buckets and that was with cloth in the center and vinyl sides and he did a super job.with everything.I would have bought the cheap racing seats from summit before I paid that kind of moneyI think I should go hug my seat man! From: baddassgremlin@xxxxxxx <baddassgremlin@xxxxxxx> Terry, $500 per bucket seat is the going rate for a standard vinyl job in my area of MN. That is for one color.. When you start in with multi colors and cloth it can start pushing $2000 and up for both front and back seats, and can total an easy $3000 once you get all the trim and door panels done. I am not worried about the back one I keep in folded down all the time. While I would love to get in done in the orginal vinal but I don't expect miracles. As long as it close to that ugly tan color and it looks like it belongs in the car I will be happy. The drivers side is going to need some padding and some work on the springs. I thinking around $500. Do you guys think that is in the ball park. Terry __._,_.___ __,_._,___ -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
