Re: [AMC-list] AMC Polysteel Radial tires

Hi & yes, Goodyear Polysteel Radial D78X14 tires were optional on several packages of AMCs, including Gremlin X in 1975 for instance. Usually part of the "X" packages for Gremlin, Hornet, Matador & Pacer Series. You could get them on regular steel rims or AMC's new slot dish aluminum hubcaps. The "X" package for Gremlin & Hornet was $201; for Matador $199 and Pacer $339.

On the car you mention with NOS Polyglass tires, that is a excellent point, those tires alone should be worth $1500-$2000. What I would do with them is mount them, and when trailer a AMC to show, install them at the meet then display, then uninstall them & put back in trailer, putting regular or aftermarket rims/tires on the show car. Sort of like what some of you racers do with slicks!

Question for Eddie or anyone else who knows. Were there any Gremlin models after 1974 that came with Goodyear Polysteel Raised white letter radial tires? My 1973 X's had Polyglass bias belted but I was wondering if a car with Polysteel tires had them on as aftermarket repro tires. Saw a 1975 base Gremlin for sale in FL for $14+K and it showed Polysteel radials in pictures but the ad description listed NOS Polyglass tires. Did not think early Gremlins had radial tires on as factory. What says the Gremlin guru???
