Unless you are willing to sacrifice some solid metal for rust I don't see you being able to make your cut as you envision. To weld that close to the gasket and glass is probably going to either torch the already bad gasket or worse depending on whether you pull the dash etc; remove inside trim and carefully take a new blade in a utility knife and cut the lip off. You can usually leave the bottom alone. Then get a friend, since yours is cracked glass and very carefully push the top forward leaving the bottom sit as a hinge. TAPE the gasket to the top and sides Gorilla duct tape or good packing tape will do. lift the glass straight up, the gasket may stay down , just gently pull it off the body, flip the glass and tape the gasket to the glass. NEVER take that gasket off till installation day. It is your bumper and will help save the glass! Run a test on the parts car since you say it is shot to. You can't really cheat at this process you just have to go for it and do it right. If John Elle was still here he and a friend replaced the entire front end on a 79 Spirit, front unirails, everything. Patience. If you really can't get a new glass or gasket at he end of the build you can always glue the gasket face to the body with urethane rubber windshield sealer, Just don't stop to fast! :-) I did not have the cash to build my American or the convertible, just enjoy the process. I now have the cash and am slowly working through the backlog of other projects. Kids and wife bought me an awesome 6 channel Pyle Marine rated amp. It is very cool, white with a blue inset and blue leds. As soon as I saw it I knew one of those was going in trunk of the American. Autometer is sending me a brand spanking new speedo to replace the flaky 6 year old one I bought new off ebay. No paper work at all. They just said that they had issues with about half of the series that I had and they will send out a brand new one $200 now! Hang in there sometimes things just work aroun d to be right in the end, sometimes you just have to wait it out.
