Notable AMC-connected person:

Cecil Pond, 87, of Palm City, Fla., a pioneer of the riding lawn mower and founder of Wheel Horse Products, died Dec. 30 in Palm City, Fla. He attended Purdue before joining the Army. After World War II, he and his father made a small farm tractor out of their garage, then a model to cut grass in expanding suburbs. The company made 22 attachments, including plows. It was sold to American Motors, then to Toro.
