[AMC-list] TF trans with a 290

Marty,
The 904, 998 and 727 will bolt up to the 290 but the 290 crank will need some
modifications to accept the TF converter and flexplate. If the engine is
already apart, you could have your machinist machine out the hub of the crank
and then make an adapter to press in that will have the hub to locate the
flexplate as well as the hole for the back of the converter to sit in. Doing it
this way you don't have to space out the transmission for proper starter
alignment.
If you can not machine to the back of the crank, you will need a bushing that
can be pressed in to small BW pilot hole of your crank that will then open up to
the TF size and have the outer ring to locate the flex plate with the hole
diameter of the TF converter. It is basically the same as above only you are
not machining it so the converter hub sits inside the crank hub like the 72 and
up cranks are from the factory so you will need to make a spacer to go between
the bellhousing and the block otherwise your starter won't engage correctly. I
thought advanced adapters made a kit for this but I couldn't find it on their
site. We typically just machine the back of the crank as it is a cleaner way of
doing it.
Kind regards,
Nick

Will a 904, 277 or 909 transmission bolt up to a 1969 290??? If not, what
entails a crank modification?? Finally, the 290 is a 2 barrel but was converted
to a 4 barrel.? Do the valves need to be replaced to run the 4 barrel?
?
Thanks
