Tip one, DON'T hold the button.
Foot on brake, push button and release, the car does the rest.
sometimes it will overcrank if you hold the button down.

It was a Hertz rental, and was only 'upgrade' available. Guy asked me 'if I had ever driven a keyless car' and my answer was 'WTF' bluntly, but with a laugh. He pressed a button and door on driver side unlocked. He said 'go ahead, push the button' of which I did, probably holding it down too long. If it was a AMC it would be equlivent of still having key turned once car started and your 401 flywheel is throwing teeth all over ground while starter still stuck to it. They only gave me one dongle thing also. So Paige didn't have a dongle and if she did...I would not be married to her 23 years (bad-a-boom).

I'll have to go out to the Hertz and see if I can do a few tests on a Altima as now either heat has gotten to me or will try some of the things that happened....again and let everyone know of the results.

not mine above but if it is electrical, it can be hacked it seems, if people can pry into Pentagon computers layers of security, chances are someone can over ride a dongle thing. I looked thru some youtube videos on how to rekey these or over ride them but it was not until I searched for 'hack a dongle' on www.youtube.com that it really lit up.

And I thought being able to start 6 of my classic AMCs with one key was special.

I Can't honestly say why your rental allowed these things.
Ours is very strict. If my wife has the fob at the passenger door she has to unlock, it won't allow me to do it on the drivers side.
Even with one fob in her purse you can't lock the car until you take the second one out of the trunk.
no way it will start unless fob is in front area of car.

On the dongle thing you mention, I was not anywhere near the Altima when Jacob started it,
was inside Academy store, wife Paige & Noah still in car, but she told me 'he wanted to
start the car' so she let him and I was surprised as was well inside brick & mortar store
but car started. I may add that something I found useful on car was Paige was getting a
adult beverage out of trunk while we were fishing at steps near L heads in CC, and locked
key/dongle thing in trunk. Lucky for me inside the car was a manual trunk release pull
thing. If I ever rent one of these things again, will definately try walking away from car
holding my dongle. And I hope can say that on here.
