generally true; r134a doesn't have quite the heat capacity of r12.

there is also a propane/butane mix drop-in replacement for r12, an
even better cooler, compatible with all oils etc.

depends on where you are.  up here if we get a blast that lasts longer
than 3 days we call it a heat wave.  in new orleans they get it for 3
months and call it 'summer'...  [actually their summer is worse; our
record dewpoint is still below 80, typically 60s]

you could get by if you aren't in the south, but you'll definitely
need all the cooling you can get if you are.
