Certainly there's no accounting for taste. But design is not always about pretty. The question to ask about design is: did it meet it's goals? We love the Gremlin because it is ugly, cute-ugly, but because we know it sure as hell met it's design goals -- quick-to-market success from a cut-down existing design. It was in production for a long time and helped prolong the life of AMC so it sure as hell was a successful design -- ugly or not. Wartburg isn't even ugly -- it's just a FIAT-meets-Datsun as are a lot of "eastern bloc" country cars. It was 30 years ago. Different cultures, different tastes, different markets. Not fair to call someone else's fashion "ugly" unless it's really a stinker. Sad enough, most of the actual design failures are American. Did it meet it's goals? -- Mustang II? NO. Chevy HHR? NO. Cimarron? NO. Prius as a failure? clearly not. Ugly? ... it is a classic meets-design-needs. That fat flea shape (hardly unique to Prius) is a good use of space for a small car. The 60's, 70's are over -- thank $DIETY -- all the people I know who own them love them and not many of them are car people. > > The ugliest car ever, Pontiac Aztec singlehandedly put Pontiac out of > business. > > Amen to that! Wow is that thing an eyesore and embarrassment! A Furd Granada is sad, but the Aztec is depressing. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
