I'm afraid the local shop is your best bet. Get them to quote a price with aluminized steel pipe instead of the expensive stainless. Even regular steel will last 10+ years. Price should be near half of stainless. A stock single exhaust will cost a bit less. Just run a 3" pipe all the way back after the "Y" pipe that connects the two engine banks. Only one muffler, less pipe, and about as good as duals. Unless the engine is highly modified a 2.5" system should be sufficient. ------------- Date: Thu, 21 Apr 2011 09:56:05 +0100 From: John Eckersley<john.eckersley@xxxxxxxxx> I need a new exhaust for the '68 (290 SST Rebel). The one that's on has rotted out in various places. I took the system off my 67 parts car but sadly that has holes in too. Is there an "off the shelf" supplier for these any longer or do I just need to take it to the local exhaust shop? I rang a local place and was quoted ?900 (pounds) to replace the non-standard dual system I have with a stainless one - that is kinda steep and actually I wouldn't mind going back to the stock system. Obviously (as I'm in England) shipping would be high, but possibly more reasonable than a shiny stainless system that would likely outlast the rest of the car:-) -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://www.amc-mag.com (free download available!) _______________________________________________ AMC-list mailing list AMC-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://list.amc-list.com/listinfo.cgi/amc-list-amc-list.com
