If you have the light sensor wire hooked just to switched power and not through enough resistance, the feedback can be enough to keep the coil operating. I ran into that several times over the years. That's also why the heater fan is on the accessory side of the ignition. Otherwise when the car is shut off, the fan turns into a temporary generator and keeps the car running for a bit. I've got a GM 3-wire in my 63 Classic, and a Mitsu equiv. in my 63 American, using the stock dash lamp wiring.
