Also, I'd suggest using BLACK adhesive. When doing the Javelin, I used a
"regular" yellowish-colored 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive (also called "monkey
snot/gorilla snot", I believe), and had to do careful cleanup to remove any
excess, as it really stood out. I wised up and used the black flavor on my
wife's Firebird; much nicer deal.

I agree - I would use weatherstrip adhesive as well. I used adhesive when
doing the weatherstripping on my Jav, and am very glad that I did. While
redoing my wife's '68 Firebird, I originally just clipped on the door
weatherstrip but soon found it sagging and bagging between the clips, so
removed it and used glue in addition to the clips; made a world of
difference.

The older cars didn't use clips in the rubber and were glued -- don't
know when they started using the clips. It certainly won't hurt to pull
the gasket and use weatherstrip or contact cement on them. Less likely to
pull out of place that way. The clips hold it in place, but I'd glue
also.

When you replace the door and trunk gaskets, do you just use the press
fit, or do you glue them as well? There are a few spots on the door
where the seals need a touch of glue - just wondering if I should
remove and glue the whole thing.
