[AMC-list] Glass rubber for late 60s American



    Well there is reasons for both the butyl and the urethane rubbers for windows and it all comes down to the age of the cars. As most cars pre 80's had some sort of rubber window gasket installed or they used butyl because the vehicles had major strength in the steal auto shell. The windows will actually shift in the soft butyl with the overall bodyroll or movement. The newer cars have the windows glued in with urethane as they use the widow as part of the over all strength of the car. They Auto companies also saved big dollars in not producing metal clips and holders and have gone to plastic one time use rivets and fasteners. It is never a good idea to use any type of silicone based glues, cleaners or waxes on a car especially Armorall they use on seats and tires. It is a nightmare for an autobody painter to come across a finger print in the metal from someone cleaning the seats then touching the outside of the door as they close it.
