More AMC Dealership photos would like to share with you off my site..... This one is one of my favorites, http://www.planethoustonamx.com/amcdealerships/nash_drums.jpg it is from the P. K. Williams Nash collection. P K Williams was on Congress street in Austin Texas and was like the Cal Worthington of Nash, Rambler & AMC. A great showman, you will find many of his photos...and his dealership & promotions littered on my website under AMC DEALERSHIPS http://www.planethoustonamx.com/amcdealerships/amdealers.htm & AMC PRESS PHOTOS. http://www.planethoustonamx.com/press_photos/amc_press_photos.htmThis photo above is of a AMC Dealership meeting, AMC would commonly have these conventions,
more of a cheerleading event, for dealers. New products would be introduced, strategies, marketing, all heavily covered. The Dealers (& many Zone Managers) got a free trip, which usually included meals and booze. Everything paid for by Nash. You would see this into the 1960s with the Mission AMX extravaganza at the Playboy clubs, http://www.planethoustonamx.com/stuff/missionamxplayboypinks.htm and then with the Secret LAX trip to name a few. P. K. Williams is on the right, if you count 5 drums straight back row, he is directly behind 5th drum smiling like a possum with trademark smile. I do not know if any of the other hotel guests slept that night, nor do I know if that pitcher on the table is vodka, not water. The photo I believe is from 1949, possibly 1950.
From 1967, Town & Country Rambler in Fullerton, California! Joe Drury the Orange County
Rambler Dealer with the Sharp Pencil!!! http://www.planethoustonamx.com/amcdealerships/town-country-rambler-CA.JPG Great deal on a new 1968 Javelin for only $2377 full price including tax & license, should be wearing down that sharp pencil selling those right & left. Note the Javelin is "the talk of all the race fans" which meant lots of dealer traffic, this was a time when AMC was making some serious noise in Trans Am & NASCAR racing with the new Javelin! Se Habla Espanol too! C'mon down & check out almost 100 brand spanking new 1968 American Motors cars! Neat ad, sure miss a lot of the humor (humour if Canadian) AMC & Rambler ads of old. Ward Lee Inc. AMC of Santa Ana, California is shown in summer of 1968 with the Southern California Dealers Association drag Javelin, also know as the "So Cal Javelin" but more affectionately known to AMC fans as the Ron Root Javelin, as Ron piloted this for several years in California. http://www.planethoustonamx.com/amcdealerships/ward-lee-amc-CA.JPG More on the Javelin parked out front momentarily. What I personally find facinating about the Ward S Lee ad is how the dealership looks. This is how several of the dealerships my dad worked for down in Corpus Christi, Texas looked. AMC flooded dealers with lots of promotion items to attract attention. Most dealerships had oversize glass panes and sometimes you could not see the cars inside for the promos! On the right side in the window is a Democrat & Republican flyer. Back then you could use images like this without starting riots! AMC had a great promotion in 1967 for Democrat & Republican tying in with the 1968 election. "The Smart Buyers National Election KIT & KABOODLE" Convention & Election Night Tally Sheet" was a large, colorful two sided flyer comparing candidates to AMC vehicles. Brilliant Marketing! For instance "Ambassador: you don't have to nominate air conditioning to your new car slate, it's standard!' or "vote American! Here's the only car Made In America priced under $2000! for instance. On the back side it showed election results for 1960 & 1964. It also had all the states electoral votes, and and a tally sheet for Republican, Democrat and popular vote, quite neat tie in. *Side note if anyone wants one of these I still have NOS ones in stock, $8 each postage paid. But the cluttered look worked for most dealers and is neat to see this particular "Vote AMC!" promotion in the windows considering I have the cardboard flyers to go with it! http://www.planethoustonamx.com/main/amc_vote.jpg http://www.planethoustonamx.com/main/amc_vote1.jpg http://www.planethoustonamx.com/main/amc_vote2.jpg On to the Ron Root Javelin. The Root Javelin was a familiar sight at many drag strips in California and not uncommon to go about to different AMC Dealers and promote it such as the Ward ad. http://www.planethoustonamx.com/press_photos/69_Javelin_SS_PR.JPG http://www.planethoustonamx.com/Photo_Gallery_Nascar/southern_california_ssjavelin.JPG Somewhere on my site it is parked out front of Ben Carco AMC too. I believe this car still exists, or I know it still was around in 1980s. I didn't know whether to add these to the AMC Dealership file or AMC Ads file so put them in the Dealership file, as it contains a number of original ads like these. Hopefully someone has some of those big dealer decals, flags & posters AM Dealers hung in the windows from 1960s as I collect them.........
