Thanks Jim. I may try to do that. From: Joe Fulton To: amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [AMC-list] Vacuum Switch Problem Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 I have two projects going now, the 65 Rambler almost done, and I'm building a 232 engine for my 76 Gremlin. The current Gremlin problem is that I'm using a 1972 short block, just because it was "done" and all I had to do was add the head the accessories.? Because it is a 1976 model car the engine must meet CA emissions.? There one coolant temperature overide switch (vacuum switch) the goes on the driver's side of the block.? The 76?engine was plumbed for this valve which has 9/16 inch NPT threads.? The 1972 block has a 1/2 inch opening (with threaded plug).?? My alternatives are: 1.??? Bore the block opening and re-thread to 9/16.?? I've never done this and I don't have the proper tap anyway.? The engine is mostly assembled and I ain't taking it to a machine shop. 2.??? Find adapters to adapt the small opening to accept the 9/16th valve.? I got this done at NAPA and it looks like a Rube Goldberg deal about 4 inches long.? The poor switch won't see hot water until the engine is thoroughly warmed up (maybe never). 3.??? Find a way to put that switch somewhere else in the cooling system.? An emissions shop had done this with a special adapter on a previous Iron Duke engine in my Spirit.? It looked like hell but it worked fine until I could pull the engine and actually get access to that side of the block. I'm wondering if anyone out there has experience in finding an inline hose fitting which would accept this switch (valve).?
