I've sold one set of rods and a full set of 69 232 main caps to a Stroker builder. The old main caps are much beefier than 4.0L caps course you have line hone them to the block. Still have another set caps. Hint, hint. Anyone? :) The 72 up 232 crank can be used to build a "square" engine. Equal stroke and bore. I don't know a lot about engine theory, but it seems to make some people happy? Ends up at about 250"s and gives you the 4.0L big bore and the shorter stroke of a 232. I even went so far as to have one mapped out using a 199 crank in the 4.0L IIRC it would displace 229ish inches, big bore way short stroke. I'm not sure if we found workable parts for it or if it was all expensive custom stuff. Alas, Babylon, if there was only a way to get adopted by Jay Leno! Just so people are clear: there are 2 different 232s. Early (with small bell and shorter stroke) and later (72 up with same bell as AMC V8s) There may be some '71 only longstrokes like the 258 with small bell. Was it a bore increase or stroke? stroke. 199 - 3"; 232 - 3.5"; 258 - 3.895". all are 3.75" bore and have the same pin height until '80. 290 and 304 slugs have similar dimensions. 4.0 is 3.875" bore x 3.414" stroke. jeepspeed racers have used the 232 crank for a 'cheater stroker'; it increases disp only a few cubes but bumps compression quite a bit. i'm told the engines run 'very well'... btw there are 2 rod lengths: 199, 4.0 - 6.125" 232 - 5.875" '64-'70, 6.125" '71-9 258 - 5.875" block deck height was increased ~1/4" in '71. 290-360 rods are also 5.875", identical save for narrower big end. ________________________________________________________________________ Andrew Hay the genius nature internet rambler is to see what all have seen -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
