Re: [AMC-list] American wagons

Duh, I culd told him dat. :)

I'm trying to beat the same mentality into my sons.
If you want a "fun" car, don't make it your only car! You need backup transportation and Walmart parking lot worthiness too!

Sure you can have a cool fun daily driver! But you Gotta expect to gather up some road rash. There simply is not a way to avoid it. Your fault or someone elses. Don't matter. The rash looks the same no matter how you look at it!

I am constantly reminded of this on even my American. I did not push the right rear 1/4 over far enough when tweaking the rear. It had been hit hard on the right side in front 1/4 and door. High enough to not disturb the rocker but it did drive in the latch pillar and right wheel house. The first, second and third repairs were very half A$$ed. I looked hard for a right rear 1/4. No luck in 1995... That led to the front wheel opening on some rusty fenders flipped and welded, and brazed in! I bought my 1st mig between doing the right 1/4 and left. My right 1/4 is made up of 5 pieces of metal, too much duraglas and high grade plastic filler is on there too. The paint chips on both sides of my trunk lid and the right front corner of the hood. The poly urethane primer won't chip for nothing. Montana brand and cheap, but wow is it tough, bumpers where blasted with black beauty slag, that primer and white acrylic enamel. The paint will chip, but not the primer.

Where was -? Oh yeah, Gotta have backup if you want your pretty car to stay pretty :) or unique, or just however you want it to stay :)

Me Americano will see another paint job maybe, just maybe when I retire. If I make it to then :-O
