I bought, and had installed, an aluminum valve cover three years ago on my SX/4; the front hole, of course, is the oil filler, the next is for the pc valve, which runs to the base of the carb, and the back hole ran to the air cleaner. At first, we replaced the oil cap with a vented one, then disconnected the back line from the air cleaner because the filter was being soaked with oil, and also had a vented cap in that hole. The pc rattles, and I can blow through it, so that's not plugged. I'm drawing around "20" on the vacuum gage when I'm cruising on level ground; don't know if that's enough vacuum, and have never had it checked with any other gage. I DO know I didn't really have much of a problem, other than the usual seepage from the plastic valve cover, before the switch. I'd hate to think ill of the mechanic(he's gone to AMC heaven), but I'm suspecting he got some junk in the drain holes scraping the old gasket off. It's a PIA doing the cover, as we all know, and it doesn' t get wet driving locally, so I keep not thinking about focusing on that issue-keeping ahead of rust, and drive train problems have been on the front burner the past few years. Richard, the center console was going for $100; not a lot for the shape it was in, but I was using my wife's cash, so I had to be frugal; plus, reclining seats of the appropriate style was where the money would have gone, had they been available(highback, vinyl, blue, for Spirit body, not Concord-got those in spades!). Jim,the bumper corners are Eagle-style wrap arounds; I have two(three, if you count the one on the car) but all have various chunks taken out of them, and are as fragile as eggs. That black SX/4 that was for sale(for $3500!) at the AMO show had perfect corners, and seats, and everything else...but I digress...The right rear, when I had that one refinished, I backed with rubbery adhesive material; if I can get one of the other corners off the bumpers they are currently on, I could make a passable corner-not perfect, but better than my no-top corner.
