Yeah Frank, I suggested the same thing. Known evil and all that... I also understand the burnout factor. He has had the 63 for 30 years and 2-300K! I've wandered back and forth across that line with both my cars. I don't put near the miles on my American as Tom does. Probably 7-10k over the last 10 years, but time passes and change can feel good. As I age, I realize that a lot of the interest I have in my cars is the Scrounging of parts and building them. Buying one done to me seems like cheating...though I admit. Sometimes my aches and pains outweigh the enjoyment factor of working on my cars. There is also the factor that as I have stopped buying parts until I put the current pile to use I am approaching a bank account level that will allow me to simply buy a done car. It would take a special car to fill my wants. There's a very, very, low mile 63 American. 440H that might come up for sale soon...it is very, very cherry. Red/white, hard top 196 OHV auto on column with Console. Less than 10K documented miles! on the odometer. I'd have a very difficult time passing on it if the price is within reach! But then. There is also the possibility it will be kept by the one heir when the time comes. On the medical forums we are not allowed to give out "advice" only suggestions. I suggested the same as you a deliberate study of what he really wants, then a gathering and a build. Perhaps as little as a switch to open drive line and paint and interior for starters. Followed by a move to a simple carb'd or Howell injected 4.0L and 5 speed later. Letting others do as much as is economically possible to help alleviate the "burnout". But then he is in the land of little rust... Sure do wish someone would build a bolt or weld in truck arm setup for Ambos... The four link or ladder bars thing does not appeal much to me, unless it is done with bushings. I don't want rod ends on the street. You know, you could rebuild the wagon again and finally do the paint and body justice. but that will take a lot of time... A 4.0L, AW4 auto or five speed, Ranger rear axle (7.5" is fine), long ladder bars or better yet "truck arms" under it... perfect wagon! And it's at least 3-4" wider than an American. From what Matt says a 4x8 sheet or two will fit with the back seat down sitting on top of the wheel well humps though.
