The coil probably didn't do that. More likely the cap had a little fire under it at some point (gas seeping into the motor oil will vent vapors in the strangest places!)

WOULD YOU HAPPEN TO HAVE COIL FOR SALE FOR 69 AMX 390   SOMTHING HAPPENED TO MY RIDE ---NOT A MECHANIC ---MY DISTRIBUTOR CAP IS ALL MELTED INSIDE WHERE ROTOR SPINS HAVE EXTRA DISTRIBUTOR CAP BUT THINK I SHOULD CHANGE COIL FIRST  DO YOU HAVE A IDEA WHY THIS WOULD HAPPEN--- I ALSO WILL CHANGE MY BALLAST RESISTOR BEFORE FIRING HER UP AGAIN.
