Sometimes the task of detail and pics is the builder/owners fault. When I built my American I would have had to use a disposable camera, pay for developing, all things that would have taken precious money away from the project. IIRC, I had about $50 a month to work with. Now a days, everyone has a digital. Remember, with older builds there may simply have not been the time and cash to fully document what we all do routinely now. If you don't let them know, they won't divine that you feel that way. Even though Dan Strohl (proud to call him a friend) works for Hemmings-at-large and is an AMCer himself, he can only do so much advocating at editorial planning meetings before he's told to go sit in a corner (my guess since he's the "kid" on staff). I'm sure he'll see this thread and chime in with his $0.02 worth. I actually don't mind reading restoration stories so much. My gripe with restoration stories is the lack of BEFORE photos & information. I want a complete run-down and run-through on the car before it ever makes it into the garage. I want to see the derelict-hulk-in-the-field in all its glory so that I can contrast the finished product. The most recent Muscle Machines did a resto article on a 65 Skylark GS that showed a photo of the car as it was found, in a field. More, please!
