The diode will drop about 0.7V, making the alternator output that much too high. It's got to be a bad alternator. If the alternator is otherwise working right, I might add a relay powered by switched 12V to avoid shelling out $$$ for a new alt for a while. When I rewired I added a second unused accessory relay so it's not even any work. Very annoying, it's not a cheap alternator. Besides getting it for free I didn't want one of those giant GM jobs in there, it'll take up half the engine compartment, and who needs 60 amps in an American? With every single load on full blast and the doors open I can barely cough up 20 amps. It's a holiday weekend, I think I'll go to pick'n'pull! :-) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
