So my bosses truck started throwing water, at 320K miles. We pulled the heads and there was a crack or two plus blown gasket. Rather than put $800 into a set of heads on a high mile engine he bought a rebuilt engine from an un-named national parts house (shucks, I just don't know if I should name them). So he tells me last week the engine will be in and it came in Friday, so this morning I get to the shop to swap them. He's on the phone and I can tell he is not a cappy hamper. I look at the engine and I can see that he got basically a junk yard engine steamed clean and painted: rattle can black!! They didn't even pull off the torn intake gasket, just painted over the gasket, RTV and used plugs. Come-on, at least pull out the plugs. He paid almost $1800 for this engine. We got ahold of a big shot at the store (shucks, I wish I cold reveal them) and he said it was an error, that someone punched the wrong button. He got what they call a "re power". I was busy wrenching on the truck to hear what he said, but they are shipping a rebuilt engine to us by tommorrow. Has anyone had any good or bad luck with these rebuilt engines from parts houses. I know GM got spanked a few years ago about this practice, but what about the parts houses......Russ _______________________________________________ AMC-list mailing list AMC-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://list.amc-list.com/listinfo.cgi/amc-list-amc-list.com
