My old '59 American with flathead and automatic was like that only worse, man that was a slow car! It was also a ruin, I was 20, I paid $25 for it, the floors were gone, etc. I did get it to 90 once, literally downhill, flat out, it was the sort of scary stupidity one is capable of at 20. Crap brakes? Loosey-goosey steering? Busy two lane road? Ah, so what... This car, yeah, before the rebuild, around 3800 torque dropped off, and it sounded unhappy. I recall once I missed a shift, revved it to 4200 or something, and being a bit alarmed at the result. I don't doubt that compression is up now and all that but it's gotta be carburetion as the major difference. Oh yeah and that camshaft. I really REALLY like the Weber 32/36 DGEV. After years of farting around with the stock type small Carters (fine quality, zero performance, fuel starve in corners) and v8-market 4 barrels, the slightly irritating Webers are exactly, perfectly sized for AMC sixes. It would be nice to see what one would do as the ONLY modification to a 195.6 OHV, so there would be some better sense of before vs. after. I have too many variables for that here. _______________________________________________ AMC-list mailing list AMC-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://list.amc-list.com/listinfo.cgi/amc-list-amc-list.com
