Subject: [AMC-list] power windows

I bought a 66 classic convertible and one front and one rear power
window motors was missing. I've contacted all the AMC parts places
with no luck. tried a street rod power window kit and the motor
didn't have enough 'umph.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do. where I can go to get
replacements or retrofit.
I pulled the motors that I have and they are stamped "American Bosch"

Try Hydro-E-Lectric on my VENDORS list:

they have all types of electric top, lock and window motors. Those American Bosch window motors AMC used for decades are indestrucible, can hold them underwater and still work. My 68 Rebel convertible 'Machine' has electric windows, the rear 1/4 ones still work, the ones in doors removed in 1974 by original owner who was the parts manager of Vance & Sons AMC where the car sold new, and he bought it in 1970 at 'his price' and ordered regulators thru the dealership (he could do that and his price too) but changed them out. So still has the electric window switches in door, but also window cranks, so looks neat but that was his doing. And everyone still, decades later, asks if the window cranks turn when I push the electric window switch.

The reason why is while the American Bosch motors are indestructible, the way AMC configured them in the doors sucks. Even into the 70s and Eagle series it is like a damned LEGO system AMC contraption inside the doors. So even with new motors, my suggestion would be to lube up the tracts well, maybe something like lithium grease, to help, however, the odds you will have to 'help' the windows up, and down by hand while pushing switch.......remain high! Neat Group 15 Accessory to have on one's car, just troublesome. I see you tried aftermarket street rod kit, I did too....in 1988. Again, the problem was not the weight of glass (and steel, and/or stainless trim like my Rebel has around perimeter) it was AMC's jumble of tracts inside the door like a unfinished roller coaster that was problem.

If you get your Classic 66 Convertible window motors lined up, working great and windows go up and down without assistance, a suggestion would be to post a video on youtube of it for other AMC electric window motor owners, myself included, to marvel at!

Good luck with it, even powered windowed Eagles I have owned leave me cursing the electric windows, especially when won't work at all, up or down.....on hot day.
