When you consider what kind of care it p0robably had in the last few DECADES and that it probably has a 'slap rings in it' crap rebuild 15 years ago and that its a cast iron chunk as old as your parents, its hard to com0plain about them! from my handheld On Apr 2, 2010 12:48 AM, <das24rules@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: so, i have about 3500 miles on ths engine in rosie that i got of "unknown history". i picked it up only as an "usiezed engine". it ran, so i put it in. i pressure washed it real good, ran some (i think it was GUNK brand) engine cleaner in it, and put fresh oil in it. ran it for about 1000 miles, changed the oil, and had to put a valve cover gasket and groments on it. they were leaking horibly. pressure washed it again. i have about 2500 miles since the valve cover gasket change. changed the oil again about 400 miles ago again. it came out actually fairly clean. tom j. and frank s. and anyone else like myself who know the little motor pretty well know they always seep on the lifter side of the head gasket. torqued the head before i ran it. retorqued it at the last oil change. guess what. i cant beleive it, but there is NO oil seeping at the head gasket. i had an intermittent miss that was slowly getting worse. only under acceleration or load. around here, its nothing but hills, so that load is almost all the time. bad juju. i took a look at points. burnt up. now, i live 45 miles from town, so cant just run in and grab them. so i save anything "just in case" that isnt competely shot. had an extra set of points that were decent. cleaned them up, miss is gone. need to readjust timing i think now tho. motor blows a lil blue puff when first started after sitting for about 15-20 min or more, but overall, i cant belive how this thing runs. still gathering parts for the (alu-mini-um as an old drag race friend used to pronounce it) motor. that crap is FAR more hard to find than the c.i. motor stuff. anyway, just had to brag about how it wasnt weeping oil. WOO HOO. and yes, i keep it full of oil. running 15-40 in it now, had 20-50 in it for the very first oil flush. _______________________________________________ AMC-list mailing list AMC-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://list.amc-list.com/listinfo.cgi/amc-list-amc-list.com -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
