There is a lot more than shoddy Chinese AMC emblems being dumped out there in market. What bothers me is important components of our cars being henco en china from brake items, to engine and transmission parts, since (I guess) they can't be produced competively in US market anymore, so sent overseas to be made in the Nike factories by 12 year olds making 12 cents a week. So let's do a $50K rotisserie restoration on a muscle car, and only brake pads, engine gaskets, pistons, (pick somehting) available will be Chinese made. I was reading this site: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/chinese-government-our-car-exports-suck/ And liked this comment, but it is unfortunately true: "I try to avoid buying anything made in China, but it is rather difficult and expensive. And in truth, the rest of the world lowered it standards in response to Chinese “quality”. As time goes on, my guess is more and more Chinese stuff will "flood" the market with low standard crap. I was reading a thread on a non AMC site about crappy altenators, and 'lifetime' starters that have a lifetime of about a year before you have to replace. On a starter....I have 'lifetime' starter from O'Reillys, not sure where it was made, the brand name is Ultima, and the guys that work there jokingly call it 'ultima mieirda' (sic) for 'ultimate piece of poo. Some I have on my AMCs have worked great thru 100,000+ miles, hurricanes, flooding, high water, heat, humidity, cold, volcanos in Iceland, so really great, however, some like wife's 88 Eagle, have to replace on time frame like damned swallows coming back to Capistrano. Waltrip at least can do NAPA commercial with straight face while being stalked, surrounded by Chinese auto parts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u621j21T6r8 Maybe we can get some more forged steel crankshafts for 390/401 done hench en china http://www.made-in-china.com/products-search/hot-china-products/Auto_Parts.html Eddie Stakes 713.464.8825 eddiestakes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx www.planethoustonamx.com ----- Original Message ----- From: baadass73gremlin@xxxxxxx To: BaadAssGremlins@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Sunday, March 28, 2010 11:02 PM Subject: Re: [BaadAssGremlins] chinese amc emblems, jeeps, muscle cars oh my More sh*tty made parts...greeeeat :-( Bart In a message dated 3/28/2010 8:30:40 P.M. Chinese muscle cars...... http://www.chinacartimes.com/category/beijing-auto-works/ It's one thing to see Chinese 'AMC NOS emblems' on ebay, another however to see BAW thinking about buying of a number of automakers, check out the Jeep, Chrysler and Volvo comments. Check out the BAW B40 from the March 10th release. I was commenting a few days ago about Chinese brake components for our American made cars....the stuff sold over counter at O'Reillys and Auto Zone, my guess is that is all that is out there now, even at NAPA and other places, don't honestly know. Note the "three door Jeep" thread also. A lot of people, AMCers alike, don't realize AMC had a plant in Beijing in 1970s for Jeep. It mentions 1984, but according to some of the stock holder reports, the relationship goes back a few years earlier than that.
