" From: "Armand Eshleman" <aje1@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> " " " Hey guys, " " The specs I received from Crane on the 272 H10 cam don't look suitable for " my uses. " With the T-5 transmission in fifth (.63 overdrive) and the rear end gearing " (2.87-1) and 245/45-17 wheels/tires, the engine is turning about 2000 rpm " at about 70 mph. I would have to drop down into 4th gear (1 to 1) to get " the revs up into the cruising operating range of 2600 rpm or more where the " cam likes to be. Many of the local roads aren't 70 mph speed limits either. " Many are 60 or 65 mph, which lowers the rpm more. I'm not so convinced I " want to do this cam swap........what do you guys think? yeah, without regearing it doesn't look so good. advancing the cam - as with a cloyes multi-position timing set - would bring the happy cruising revs down, but not 600rpm. with the 0.63 5th, you need 3.73s in the rear to do that. [btw, anyone know if jeep 3.07s or 3.31s will or won't fit car amc20s?] fwiw, there are both 0.72 [gm f-car] and 0.80 [brit ford, warner oem] 5th gears for the 2.95 t5. based on 2-3 and 3-4 splits, 0.8 is just about where 5th ought to be... and it'd put you right about on the button for cruising revs with your 2.87s. http://www.britishv8.org/Articles/Borg-Warner-T5-ID-Tags.htm ________________________________________________________________________ Andrew Hay the genius nature internet rambler is to see what all have seen adh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and think what none thought _______________________________________________ AMC-list mailing list AMC-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://list.amc-list.com/listinfo.cgi/amc-list-amc-list.com
