Stripped oil pump drive?! Full, 101% teardown. Who knows what went on in
there? Boil out, magnaflux, THEN a 3 hour bench inspection with a bright light and a magnifying glass! Seriously, that aluminum engine was a freak when it was new, now it might as well be from outer space. the oil pump i stripped the teeth on. the motor the valve cover off of it when i got it. it had a couple inches of water in the bottom. no green stuff, (that was still in the bottom of the block and radiator) i think it was just condensation from over the years. the crank was stuck on a 2 rod bearings, the timing chain/gears were rusted together, and the oil pump had water in the pump gears. i got it tore down, and was trying to move the cam with a little rubber oil filter strap. it moved a little, so i was just working it back and forth with pb blaster on all bearings/lifters. i got it to move about 1/2 turn, but no more. then i noticed the oil pump shaft wasnt moving. those teeth stripped off pretty easy on the oil pump drive gear. the cam doesnt show ANY sign of damage on the gears. i have the motor stripped down of EVERYTHING now. i got to pull the extra cast iron oil pump apart, and make sure the shaft, pump gears, and cam drive gear all will work. i hope so, or im SOL. the crank, and all bearings look great. will send the crank in. i hope he can just polish it. i have a set of std main bearings. cylinders look great, mic'd perfect and everything. just have to see what my machinist says on hismeasurments.
