you got nothing to lose, now do you? It ain't working this way. gently grind the lip till you can get it slid over. I have a chrome pan here that does not hit mine if you need one. It's on a 69 232, $20 plus shipping. (you can have the whole engine too :) I'd have to double check it, but it is like 10 years old. sitting in my shed, it had no sign of rust last I looked. So whoever chromed it did a decent job. The cheap chromed ones explode with rust in no time.
