Re: [AMC-list] Nick Alfano's new front end kit -- and I'm moving!!

The only problem will be the width of the crossmember. 68-70 Javelin/AMX "frame" rails are 35-7/32" apart (outside to outside), 64-69 Americans are 33-7/8" (approximate, inside to inside measurement is 28-7/8, rails are about 2-1/2" wide). The next item would be width of the rack, but that may not be a problem. The tie rods can be shortened, but it really depends on the tie rod ends used. Mustang II are shortest, Thunderbird longest (not the little two seater, the last of the big ones!), and Fox body Mustang in between. If Nick's setup uses the Fox body Mustang ends then the Mustang II ends should shorten the width about right. If he uses the short MII ends, the tie rods ends may be threaded back far enough to be cut off, or shorter tie rod ends may be available. I'm assuming he's using the popular Mustang type rack too! The inner tie rod "ends" include the rod in a ball socket that screws to the ends of the rack.

Nick; How easy is it to convert your front end kit to the Americans. I am not familiar with the kit but I am assuming it is for the trunnion AMXs, right. My waggie needs something once the engine/tranny situation is done.....Russ
