It'd be best to get the right tool. It's availabe at any auto parts store and cheap. If you keep an old Rambler around you'll use that tool again. It's a flat plate with a broad u-shaped slot in it and you slide it under the door panel feeling for the spring clips. Surround a spring clip with it and lift up. Once you do one clip you'll realize what you're doing. You don't want to tear those clips out of the back of the door panel. At least not many of them.
