Nope, actually it's pretty common -- that was the stock (only!) engine. Had to get a Rebel 58-60 to get a V-8. All 58-60 Rambler Rebels had the 250 V-8, all other Ramblers (they didn't call them Classic until 61... the big Rambler was usually called a Rambler 6) got the 196. All Ambassadors those years got the 327. 1960 was the first year the OHV 196 was offered in the American as an option, 58-59 only got the L-head. I expected to see an American because you noted that the OHV was uncommon. Either it would have been misidentified (actually a 60) or the engine swapped -- not that uncommon a swap!
