My permission story from 40 years ago. Asked only once, the wife didn't drive and never has to this day. In 1972 my bought new 65 American with 4 years of my father not doing any maintance on it while I was in the NAVY ( late 65-69) and my little brother beating on it learning to drive at 16 and chasseing anything with a skirt was shot. He also worn out the reclining bucket seat mechanism in both buckets. I had a chance to but a nice clean very low mileage CHEAP 69 Elky. I wasn't a died in the wool AMC man yet. Car had a 307 V8, buckets, 3 speed on the floor and was black with one wavy quarter fixed free to the owner from some body shop school. Owner was a kid who needed money for college. We had no kis and the wife said WHAT DO WE NEED A PICKUP TRUCK FOR!!!!! So I passed. For a few hundred $$$$ more I bought my fathers 69 4 door Rebel SST with ony 21,000 miles. I had i for 2 years and it was the biggest POS/MONEY Hole I ever saw. In 74 after I got rid of the Rebel and bought my Yellow Hornet, a couple moved into the building where we lived. He had a 65 F-100 with a cap on the back. We became friends and used to go camping with them as he also had a 13' camping trailer. The moron who I am still married to say's one day " you should have bought the Elky and put a cap on it". That was the last time I ever took my wife's advice on cars. Cars were tranportation till 10 years ago. When a 74 Hornet Hatchback that I had chased for 3-4 years ago became available I bought it. The wife came home one Saturday afternoon and I told her. IT WAS MY MONEY not ours or the houses. She looked at me and said whatever. Later I heard it from the wife because her girl friend said what does he need 3 cars for. 2 Hornet's and a 77 Malibu beater for qualifinging for classic insurance and the winter. Told her it was my money and not her girlfriends bus iness. That was 7 years ago. Nov 2008 the floors of the Malibu rotted out and it was time to go so I gave it to the guy I bought it from 12 years previously for a demo car for his daughter to learn to drive on and 500$ for a 72 Matador. Never asked the wife about the Matador as it was none of her business. It again was MY MONEY. If it is mutual or house money a mutual agreement is needed. I laugh at someone that has bought a 75,000$ plus car at an auction and say's he has to go home toexplain it to the wife. If you can afford that much for a car throw some diamonds at her to shut her up. I am finished now. One last word wives and cars don't mix.
