The problem these days is finding a good crank. I haven't been able to find
anyone that still welds cranks. They say to just buy a new one.

Subject: [AMC-list] What are 401 engines going for these days and are
manyavailable?
Hello List members:
What are 401 engines worth these days?? I have one that was bored 30 over
balanced new cam, forged pistons, double roller timing chain. Rhodes
lifters. After about 100 hours while driving the car the engine spun a
main bearing. So the crank needs to be build up and turned down again. And
new bearing throughout engine. How much is that engine worth? I have
another 401 from a International Travel All. that had a two barrel carb
and a governor. It is in good condition may not even need to be bored 10
or 20 over to clean up and rebuild. What are engines in these conditions
going for now. Since I know that they dont make them any more. I expect
that would make them worth some change. If you know what I mean? please
respond with what these engines are worth. I would like to get several
options.
Sincerely
Stephen Smith
