Stephen,
401 engines aren't worth very much these days. They were very bad designs,
and most didn't last even 30,000 miles before expiring. However since I am
in the salvage metal business I would be very happy to take these boat
anchors off your hands to help you out. I am willing to pay the very good
price of $25.00 for each 401 engine you have or can find for me. Please let
me know as soon as possible because I want to get these engines in the next
shipment of scrap I will be recycling.
Armand
Seriously, 401 engines are worth what ever you can get for them. I have seen
them sell for anywhere from 600 bucks for one pulled from a vehicle and was
running at the time, to rebuild horsepower monsters that sell for $6000 to
$10,000. So now that I've given you some idea, how about selling me the
engine out of the IH for $600.....................I live in MN.

balanced new cam, forged pistons, double roller timing chain. Rhodes
lifters. After about 100 hours while driving the car the engine spun a main
bearing. So the crank needs to be build up and turned down again. And new
bearing throughout engine. How much is that engine worth? I have another 401
from a International Travel All. that had a two barrel carb and a governor.
It is in good condition may not even need to be bored 10 or 20 over to clean
up and rebuild. What are engines in these conditions going for now. Since I
know that they dont make them any more. I expect that would make them worth
some change. If you know what I mean? please respond with what these engines
are worth. I would like to get several options.
