That sure looks like a nice car and at a reasonable price too. Unfortunately it brings up bad memories for me. I bought a 21,000 mile 2 year old 69 Rebel 4 door from my father. My 200,000 mile 65 American that I bought new was shot and with a new family I needed a dependable daily driver but could not afford a new car. Paid my father 1,500. It was below book value as he told me. It had the Warner dealer rebuilt at 17,000 miles. Since I worked for an AMC dealer as a mechanc for 7 weeks I should have known better than to buy this POS. Changed 7 of them in that time. You name it and this lemon had it go wrong. Had it barely 2 years and sold it with 38,000 miles on it for 500$ just to get rid of it. Worst car I ever owned. It was and still is refered to as the LUMP!!!! I cut up a Grant Rebel SST F/C model and a 69 Ambo to build a model of this car which I still have. The Grant model goes for around 500$ now if you vcan find one. I spent 10 times more money repairing the LUMP the short time I had it than I did on my American. That should have turned me off to all AMC's. But I bought a new 74 Hornet to replace the LUMP and the only greif I got from it in the last 35 years is the Motoraola alt. I got so good at rebuilding them I could pop one out and rebuild it and have i back in the car in 1/2 hour and this is no small feat in a car that has A/C. When the alt light went on on the new orange 74 6 years ago I tried my rebuild and a store bought rebuild and neither worked. Dropped in with some mods a 100 amp Delco. And at the first sign the Motorola gives me trouble in my 72 Matador it to will hit the trash for a Delco. "Doc" -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
