There are but you typically use those is sheet metal. What you really need is a thread insert since the bellhousing is pretty thick (at least it is in the later cars). When I did the T-14 swap in my 68, all of the threaded hole were in scary shape (let me put it this way: the starter fell off) except the one that already had an insert in it. I thought that the tranny to bell bolts were 3/8" but I know I used 1/2" ones for the starter.
