The worst thing about a fire is for weeks and months you will think or act to go get something, only to realize, it is gone...totally gone. It's scary. I fear a fire all the time and have begun to be much more cautious about everything. I unplug everything electric every time I leave the shop, or close down for the evening. My flammables are stored in separate metal containers, I keep my paints in a heavy wood cabinet. I wish my shop were sprinklered. Jim, Concrete and steel are great building materials. but don't fool yourself into thinking because of that you'll be safe, it usually isn't the building itself that causes the trouble, it's the unsafe electric hook-ups that cause overloads, welding, torches, spontaneous combustion of oily rags, stuff like that. Concrete takes a lot to collapse, metal structures sometimes collapse sooner that some wood structures, metal gets weak pretty fast as the temp rises, and collapses. good thing is, it's non combustible.
