Nope, it uses an adapter like the old BW does, or rather more like a transfer case adapter. Except for the hydraulic pump instead of electric solenoid it's very similar to the old BW unit. The electric activation is just a simple valve for the hydraulics.
By the time you read this you probably already read my other post describing the
problem with the hydraulic pump, which also indicates that it's a stand-alone unit.

The Laycock deNormanville OD unit is integral with the trans, isn't it?
Doesn't the output shaft run right into it?
