" Hi, I have purchased a few parts from you on ebay and have read and
" re-read your web site. Thank you for all the great information. I
" don't know who else to ask this question to, so I hope you have the
" time to help. I have a '72 javelin that has a 304 engine in it that
" was converted from a 6 cyl. There is a 3 speed hurst in the car now
" and I have a lead on a 4 speeed (which is what it really needs). I
" do not know what I would need for the conversion and I was hoping
" you could help with your vast knowledge of these cars. This is the
" second AMC Javlein that I have owned and love the cars, but am
" looking to get a little better versed when it comes to interchangable
" parts. I know the 4 speed came out of a '68 AMC, don't know what
" car. Can you help?
the t-10 setup could come from any '67-'74 amc with one; rebels,
americans, hornets, as well as javelins and amxes. on ken's comment,
there were several gearsets and only the widest one matches the 3sp
1st gear.
http://www.amccf.com/tech/amc_manual_trannies.html has more info than
you'll ever want to know, but also in there is useful data on the amc
t-10s. nb. the one in my basement has 't10-p' cast into its side.
if you aren't worried about originality, another possibility is a
late-'70s t150 3sp setup. this is a ford 'toploader', and a toploader
4sp, such as from a mustang, is a straight swap for this 3. 1st is
slightly lower than the 3sp also. these parts might be easier to come
by than an original amc setup.
either way, you'll need everything from the bellhousing and clutch
to the output yoke, and for the t150 a pilot bushing.
and save your 3sp! it's the only full-synchro box that bolts to '60s
sixes; someone will want it.
